What is a Neighbourhood Development Plan?

In very simple terms, a neighbourhood development plan is:

  • A document that sets out planning policies for the neighbourhood area (planning policies are used to decide whether to approve planning applications)
  • Written by the local community, the people who live and work in the area, rather than the Local Planning Authority
  • A powerful tool to help the community to get the right types of development, in the right place.

The Lakes Estate Neighbourhood Plan was made in 2015 and it covers part of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford. This plan has influenced the planned redevelopment of the Lakes Estate especially the location of future housing developments and has protected green space on the estate. The new neighbourhood plan will cover all the rest of the Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council area, including parts of Newton Leys and Eaton Leys.
